“There is no vaccine for racism" Kamala Harris powerful speech at DNC.

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician and lawyer who has served as the junior United States senator from California since 2017. Her mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris, was from India and father Donald Harris, was from Jamaica. She is the presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee in the 2020 election.Kamala Harris has accepted her historic nomination as the US Democratic party's vice-presidential candidate, running with Joe Biden for the White House.
Senator Kamala Harris of California, the first woman of color to become a major party’s nominee for vice president, reintroduced herself to America in an acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night, telling the story of her upbringing as a biracial daughter of immigrants and outlining her vision for a more inclusive country.

Below are some highlights of her 17 minutes of address at DNC.

*She spoke of her mother’s journey to America, her parents’ relationship and their subsequent split, and being raised much of her life by a single parent who taught her to put “family first.”

*“Oh, how I wish she were here tonight,” Ms. Harris said of her mother. She said that on the day she was born, her mother probably could have never imagined that she would be standing before the people now speaking these words: 'I accept your nomination for vice president of the United States of America'. She continued saying that her mother would be looking down on her from above.

*About her mother she also said that "She raised us to be proud, strong Black women. And she raised us to know and be proud of our Indian heritage".

*Ms. Harris said “there is no vaccine for racism. This virus has no eyes, and yet it knows exactly how we see each other — and how we treat each other". as she offered her vision for a more inclusive country.

* Mentioning George Floyd, she said "We’ve gotta do the work to fulfill that promise of equal justice under law. Because none of us are free … until all of us are free. We’re at an inflection point".

*Donald Trump’s failure of leadership has cost lives and livelihoods. We are a nation that’s grieving. Grieving the loss of life, the loss of jobs, the loss of opportunities, the loss of normalcy and, yes, the loss of certainty.

*We must elect a president who will bring something different, something better and do the important work. A president who will bring all of us together — Black, White, Latino, Asian, Indigenous — to achieve the future we collectively want. We must elect Joe Biden.

*Right now, we have a president who turns our tragedies into political weapons. Joe will be a president who turns our challenges into purpose.
